AIR "SEVEN STARS"

I almost missed Air's new album, Le Voyage Dans La Lune, which came out last month.  It's a fresh take on a score to Georges Melies' classic film "Le Voyage Dans La Lune" (The Trip to the Moon).  The cd/dvd album comes with the actual film.  I love the strangeness and intensity of Air.

CREATIVE POWER COUPLE: SIMON DOONAN AND JONATHAN ADLER

I love learning about creative power couples, as I happen to be part of a creative couple (Drew Beam is my beau).   I've always admired Jonathan Adler and Simon Doonan's style, but it was great to learn more about where they began, and how they live the "happy chic" philosophy.  Plus, Jonathan started out as a potter, and started his professional career by calling up Barneys and asking if they'd like to see his work. He's got an adorable bio on his company website.

Here's the 3 part interview made by Plum TV:

THE INTERNET + CREATIVITY = INFINITE POSSIBLITIES

I just needed to blog about these 2 sites to make sure that I keep them close at hand -- one is Kickstarter.com, which is an amazing platform where anyone can fund a creative project.  It's similar to kiva.com, where users can loan 25 bucks to people in the developing world.  I feel like sites like this prove how much everyday people care about beautiful things in this world, and how just a little giving can make a huge impact for someone else.

I also have been seeing a lot of 3d prototyping sites like ponoko.com, which allow users to make 3d prints, or upload their 3d sketches to an online community, where other users can buy their prints.  I'm just so amazed, and can't wait to try these sites out!

MARBLE ART

The latest thing I've been exploring is marble art -- ebru is the turkish art of paper marbling, and I've never seen an art form where the process looked like more fun than the final product.

I also came across some beautiful pieces by Garip Ay.  He combines ebru with painting...so amazing.

I also just had to throw in some agate slices because I feel like so many of the visual things I love are inspired by mother nature...

ODE TO ROCKEFELLER CENTER STATION

This cinemagraph makes me miss NY... I was in and out of this station twice a day for almost 2 years, though it was sweaty, crowded, and there was trash was everywhere.  ahh, memories...

HAMMOCKS

This is one of the best ideas I've ever seen. period.  It's Flenderhaus, a building of hammocks.  It's like a temple to relaxation.  via Black *Eiffel

While I was in Vancouver recently, I came across an amazing hammock store on Granville island, called "the hang out place".  They had the most beautifully colored chair hammocks -- they were gorgeous (and I'd like to think I looked gorgeous while lounging in them ;)  I also like how you can sit or lay down in them.
